This form can be used to provide information to eSafety about whether and how age-restricted social media platforms are implementing and complying with the Social Media Minimum Age obligation (SMMA obligation).
The SMMA obligation, set out under Part 4A of the Online Safety Act 2021 (Cth), requires age-restricted social media platforms to take 'reasonable steps' to prevent Australians under the age of 16 from having an account on their platform from 10 December 2025.
The 'reasonable steps' and other expectations around implementation and compliance are explained in eSafety's Social Media Minimum Age Regulatory Guidance. Age-restricted platforms are also expected to comply with Australian privacy laws, as explained in the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner's Privacy Guidance.
The Online Safety Act does not include a scheme for reporting complaints about the SMMA obligation. However, any information you provide via this form may contribute to eSafety's understanding of general issues arising from implementation of and compliance with the SMMA obligation, including any impacts and community concerns.
