Creating safer online workplaces for women across the Asia-Pacific region
Technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) is an increasing concern in the workplace.
Whether it’s online stalking, doxing, deepfakes, or abuse over email or messaging apps, these harms pose a growing threat to women’s safety and participation in the workforce.
To address this issue, eSafety is delivering a regional project through the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), with support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) APEC Support Program. The ‘Empowering Women and Businesses to have Safe Online Workplaces’ project aims to strengthen responses to TFGBV in the workplace and support women’s full and equal participation in the digital economy.
About the project
Delivered under APEC’s Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy (PPWE), this project will focus on practical strategies to prevent and respond to online abuse by:
- raising awareness of the gendered impacts of online abuse in workplace contexts
- supporting practical solutions to prevent and respond to technology-facilitated abuse
- empowering employers and policy makers to create safer digital working environments.
Key project activities:
- An international roundtable workshop hosted during APEC’s Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) in the Republic of Korea with policymakers, experts and business leaders from across the APEC region to share knowledge and shape effective responses to TFGBV.
- Development of a practical toolkit for employers, human resources staff and policy agencies that provides clear, actionable resources to help prevent and respond to TFGBV in the workplace.
Regional collaboration
APEC is a regional forum of 21 member economies working together to promote sustainable and equitable growth across the Asia-Pacific. This project contributes to broader regional efforts under APEC’s La Serena Roadmap, supporting inclusive digital participation and safer work environments for women. The initiative is part of eSafety’s international engagement efforts to build safer online environments through collaboration, capacity building and knowledge sharing.
