Online Safety Codes and Standards compliance

The Online Safety Codes and Standards contain a range of mandatory requirements for service providers, which need to be reported to eSafety.

This page provides information on how to communicate and report these compliance measures by using the Online Safety Codes and Standards compliance portal.

On this page:

Online Safety Codes and Standards compliance portal for service providers

Service providers can use the Online Safety Codes and Standards compliance portal to communicate with eSafety and provide information about their service. The information and reports include:

  • changes to the functionality of a service or a new feature
  • app removals notifications
  • compliance reports
  • unresolved user complaints about non-compliance
  • assessment of features and settings prior to material changes
  • development program report
  • report on technical feasibility or reasonable practicability
  • risk profile and risk assessment information.

Service providers can also submit general enquiries through the portal.

For a link to the portal, service providers should contact eSafety at codes@eSafety.gov.au.

All other information or notifications required to be provided to eSafety under online safety codes and standards should be sent to codes@eSafety.gov.au

Reporting by social media services and equipment services under the Unlawful Material Codes

Code compliance reports may be required annually or on request, as set out in eSafety’s Online Safety Codes and Standards Regulatory Guidance.

Under the Unlawful Material Codes, providers of social media services and equipment services are required to submit annual compliance reports. Reports are due by 15 February of every year. eSafety will consider service providers that submit their code compliance reports by this date to be compliant with their reporting requirement.

Equipment service and social media service providers are encouraged to use eSafety’s suggested code compliance report templates available on this page. While these templates are optional, the information and guidance will help to ensure all required information is included.

Reporting by social media services under the Age-Restricted Material Codes

Under the Age-Restricted Material Codes, certain providers of social media services are required to submit annual compliance reports. The first is due by 8 May 2027. eSafety will publish a suggested code compliance report template closer to this time.
