What is Qustodio?

Qustodio is a parental control app that can be used to manage a child’s screen time, prevent them from seeing inappropriate content and monitor their online activities. It works across Android, iOS, Mac OS, Windows, Kindle and Chromebook devices.

Features include setting daily screen time limits, scheduling device-free periods and pausing internet access. You can also monitor usage, block/limit access to specific apps and games, filter out inappropriate content by category (for example ‘gambling’ or ‘adult content’), and block specific URLs. Qustodio can be used to track your child’s real time location or receive an alert when they enter of leave designated areas. On Android devices it offers call and SMS monitoring, the ability to block specific contacts and a panic button to send an immediate alert to parents and carers in case of emergency.

Qustodio is free but there are paid plans that include more features, customisation and device coverage. It is also available to schools.

Because Qustodio can be used to track live location and monitor online activity, it is open to misuse, for example cyberstalking and within domestic and family violence situations. Additionally, it's important to be transparent about the use of parental controls with your child. Read more on our page about parental controls.

About The eSafety Guide

The eSafety Guide helps you find out how to protect your personal information and report harmful content on common social media, games, apps and sites. Entries are for information only and are not reviews or endorsements by eSafety. Before choosing to use any online service or platform it’s best to:

  • do your own research to understand the risks and benefits
  • check the age rating and requirements
  • consider privacy
  • check the permissions and other settings
  • check the in-app reporting options.

If you are a parent or carer who is deciding whether a child should be allowed to use an online service or platform, you can also:

  • consider your child's readiness for the types of content and experiences they might encounter
  • help them understand what to do if they need help
  • provide ongoing support and monitoring, for example through regular check-ins with your child
  • agree to some rules about use of each service or platform.
