Early Years program for educators

eSafety’s Early Years resources are designed to help support and encourage safe use of digital technologies for children aged 0-5.

The eSafety Early Years Program aims to provide online safety advice and tips within a positive framework for prior to school aged children, their parents, carers and their educators in an Australian context.

It aims to:

  • Build an understanding of online safety (and networked technologies) in young children.
  • Set the foundation for good habits early so they can carry this through to school and beyond – being safe, being kind, asking for help and making good choices.
  • Provide educators with the skills and confidence to support the online safety of the children in their care and their families.
  • Provide parents and carers with easy access to advice and practical tips.
  • Encourage parents, carers and educators to communicate and work together to support young children in online safety.

Free professional learning modules

eSafety has teamed up with Early Childhood Australia to create a series of online learning modules designed for early childhood educators, centre directors and managers.

The training draws on findings from a four-year Australian Research Council Linkage Program looking at how to safely engage children in the digital world. eSafety was a proud contributor to the Young Children in Digital Society research project.

The modules are self-paced and interactive, allowing educators to move through the material in their own time and build confidence through practical activities. Each module places children’s experiences at the centre, showing how they see and use digital technologies.

You can access all four modules for free through Early Childhood Australia’s Learning Hub.

Professional learning resources

eSafety recognises the importance of upskilling educators so they are prepared and capable of teaching digital technologies.

Since 2020, eSafety has provided evidence-based resources to support educators and families in navigating the digital world safely. With recent changes to child safeguarding requirements under the National Quality Framework (NQF), including the introduction of digital safety policies, eSafety has developed the following resources:
