About this campaign
This campaign raises awareness of sextortion, how it can happen, and where to get help.
Sextortion is a form of blackmail where someone threatens to share a nude or sexual image or video of you unless you give in to their demands. It relies on deception including fake profiles, building trust fast and pressure to make the victim panic and act quickly.
This campaign – 'If sextortionists were honest' – flips that dynamic by showing what blackmailers (sextortionists) would say if they were honest about what they were doing. The aim is to expose some of the tactics they use and help people recognise the warning signs.
Some content in this campaign was created using generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including Nano Banana for image generation and Veo 3 for video generation. This was an intentional choice. In some cases, blackmailers are using generative AI to target and deceive people, and it was important to reflect this in the campaign.
The scripts and scenarios were developed by eSafety and our agency partners, based on real reports and experiences. All content has been reviewed to ensure it is accurate.
