Social media minimum age evaluation: A snapshot of participating families
This report provides a point-in-time snapshot of the cohort of parents and children participating in eSafety’s evaluation of Australia’s social media age restrictions.
Drawing on data collected through the baseline survey (conducted between November and December 2025), the report describes the sociodemographic characteristics and the online and offline lives of participating children and families before the age restrictions took effect.
As a foundational publication in the evaluation series, the report is intended to be read alongside other publications in the series as a point of comparison. Together, these reports will provide a comprehensive picture of how children and their families experience the implementation of the age restrictions and the extent to which the policy’s intended outcomes are being achieved.
Beyond its role in helping to establish a baseline for the evaluation, this report also provides unique insights into the lives, experiences and wellbeing of Australian children and families in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
