Tik Tok is intended for people over the age of 16. Its Terms of Service specify that it will terminate a user’s account if it learns they are under 16 years old. However, the app does not ask for a user’s age when signing up.
Users must use an existing login when signing up for a Tik Tok account, for example their Facebook account. Personal information from this account i.e. their name and profile photo will be used to populate their Tik Tok profile, which can then be edited.
The app only allows users two options when posting videos: private so that only the user can see them, or public so that everyone can view them.
Users can also change the settings around who can direct message them and who can duet with them. These range from ‘public,’ ‘friends,’ to ‘off’ (or private). These are set to public by default.
